Fred Thompson for President?
Fred Thompson the ex-Senator and actor is is running for President. Thompson entered the race after all other major candidates and is close in the polls according to Rasmussen. Fred Thompson is the conservative's choice at this time and has a great chance to win the nomination. Giuliani is still leading in the polls and has a chance to win also.
Giuliani is a strong candidate having a good track record turning NY City around and dealing with the attack on the World Trade Center on 9-11-01. The problem with Giuliani for many is his liberal positions on many issues such as abortion and gun control. Conservatives want a solid conservative and with few exceptions Fred Thompson has a rock solid record for supporting mainstream conservative positions.
Fred Thompson would be a strong candidate for President in the general election if he gets the Republican Party nomination. If Hillary Clinton wins the Democrats nomination Thompson will have a great chance to win. Polls show Hillary leading by a small amount but the polls were before Thompson announced his candidacy and started running. Hillary was running for months before. While Hillary is viewed as controversial with high negative polls Thompson can't easily be attacked as extreme. His acting career makes him known by many and if any actors in Hollywood is viewed as extreme it's the liberals. Hollywood is not considered a place of extreme Republicans. So Thompson's acting career background puts him in a position to be viewed as moderate by the majority of voters.
Fred Thompson is the most likely Republican to win the nomination if not leading candidate Giuliani. He is a good speaker and smart. His years in the Senate gives him credibility as knowledgeable of Washington politics. Thompson would be viewed as tough based on his support for the military and the war on terror. If he does get the nomination Thompson may very well be elected President of the United States.
